Twin Oaks’ R.I.T.E. Center
Nestled in downtown Lumberton you can find what many of our consumers call their ‘home away from home’. The R.I.T.E. Center (Realizing Independence through Empowerment), is a consumer-run and managed self-help center for all consumers of mental health services in Burlington County. The R.I.T.E. Center provides a safe place for adults with mental illness to gather for socialization, emotional support, self-help, advocacy, and education.
The center offers group sessions, which are scheduled 2 – 3 times a week, designed to get adults to open up about their situation and share with the group. Through the supportive, safe place the R.I.T.E Center has created, members can learn from one another, offer support and begin the healing process. The group examines serious aspects of life and at the same time allows members to form bonds and friendships with one another through fun activities. Whether a member utilizes the R.I.T.E. Center for anxiety, substance abuse recovery or another mental health issue, members are given the chance to smile, and to smile often.
Every month the R.I.T.E. distributes a calendar full of activities and outings. The calendar includes relaxing events such as yoga, meditation and a book club as well as exercise groups featuring Zumba. Outings include trips to the movies, the beach, picnics and more. Lunch is also served once a week along with discussion about proper nutrition. The group sessions and wide array of activities offer members the opportunity to heal as a whole person.
The R.I.T.E. Center is located at 693 Main Street in Lumberton. Hours of operation are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday: 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday: 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Feel free to walk in – no appointment necessary! You must be a resident of Burlington County and be at least 18 years of age to attend. Feel free to call the center with any questions or concerns: 609-518-7293.
